Shimmering Expanse is the second zone in the undersea region known as Vashj'ir. It is the stronghold of the naga empire within the area. Besides the wide variety of plant and marine life there are also many mysterious wonders such as Nespirah. This zone is home to the ancient Ruins of Vashj'ir. Players will learn about the ruins, and what befell them, as well as interesting factoids about Queen Azshara and Lady Vashj's mother. History The Shimmering Expanse does not have much a history when it was far below the ocean's surface, least no known recorded history. Getting There Players make their way to the Shimmering Expanse as part of the overall Vashj'ir quest progression that begins in the Kelp'thar Forest. The quest Across the Great Divide has players swim across the abyss into the cave opening that leads into the Shimmering Expanse. The cave mouth is located to the west of the Clutch in the Kelp'thar Forest, across the Lightless Reaches.
Geography The Shimmering Expanse is a large piece of southern Vashj'ir. It consists of mainly the ancient city of Vashj'ir now in ruins, as well as the demi-god Nespirah. There are plenty of caves with air pockets in them that act as quest hubs for players. The wildlife of the Shimmering Expanse is incredibly diverse. A plethora of Coral jut from the walls and floor of the zone with notable species including Brain Coral and Fan Coral. Various species of kelp are also present though not in the numbers or magnificence that they posses in the neighboring Kelp'thar Forest. Starfish dot the floor ranging in color from pale yellow to bright pink. Crabs are perhaps the dominant organism on the sea floor, wandering almost everywhere in the zone with the notable exception of the Shimmering Grotto. Giant isopods and snails can also be found on various cliffs and coral ledges though they are in their greatest numbers in the area around the demigod Nespirah. Tube worms are also present and are most notable in the Glimmerdeep Gorge. Solitary fish and schools of fish are omnipresent, sometimes so thick that they can block the view. Sharks are also commonly seen swimming around in the more open areas starting a few yards above the sea floor, though some swim mere feet above the floor. Hammerhead sharks are only found in the Glimmerdeep Gorge. Eels are also present and mostly reside on various coral and sand cliffs. Notable characters In the Shimmering Expanse, players will encounter visions of the past, revealing necessary information about the great battle that took place at the Ruins of Vashj'ir. This includes information about Queen of the Naga, Azshara, as well as Lady Vashj. Players also take control of a mysterious naga known as the Naz'jar Battlemaiden, in the service of Lady Naz'jar and Lady Sira'kess. Players also encounter the Earthen Ring shaman, Erunak Stonespeaker, as well as the Earthen Ring shaman Earthmender Duarn whom they help to free Nespirah from the naga. Wild creatures

Kelp'thar Forest is the first zone in the undersea region known as Vashj'ir. It is one of the two starting zone for all players level 80 and higher (the other is Mount Hyjal). The forest features a vast array of aquatic life and plants. There is a mixed focus between the main quests involving the naga and auxiliary quests introducing players to Vashj'ir's new under water mechanics. The most noticeable feature of the Kelp'thar Forest is found along the southern edge of the zone in what is known as the Lightless Reaches. History Kelp'thar Forest does not have much of a history when it was far below the ocean's surface, at least no known recorded history. Getting There
After that from Sandy Beach or Legion's Rest in Shimmering Expanse.
After that from Sandy Beach or Tranquil Wash in Shimmering Expanse. Geography The Kelp'thar Forest is the smallest of the three underwater zones of Vashj'ir and found at the northeastern most part. Kelp'thar is separated by the Shimmering Expanse by the Lightless Reaches, a large chasm, much in the same way land zones are separated by mountains. The forest's most notable features would be the seaweed forests and overly sized shells found throughout the region. There exists a few ruins, but not as many as would be found in the Shimmering Expanse. The region mostly consists of sunken vessels that were struck down by a sea monster while heading to the newly risen landmass. The most common wildlife includes sea turtles, sharks, crabs, and other fish life. Notable Characters
Notes During the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta this area was known was Kelp Forest. Kelp'thar Forest might best suit those who do not plan on spending gold for additional riding skill, but instead get the free [Vashj'ir Seahorse] mount which makes it considerably faster to level in Kelp'thar Forest, Shimmering Expanse and Abyssal Depths.
Maybe you want to read about World of Warcraft Lore History and Geography of Kezan. Kezan is the name of the in-game starting zone for goblin players. In the overworld, the region cannot be visited, though it appears in the Maelstrom continental map. Bilgewater Port occupies all the starting zone and is the only explorable area. An open bridge and an invisible wall prevent access to the rest of the isle. The goblin player begins as a mid-level executive on KTC Headquarters, possessing great riches and power. At the end of the questing, Deathwing causes Mount Kajaro to erupt, forcing the evacuation of Kezan. Fleeing across the Great Sea, the goblins end up shipwrecking on the Lost Isles after getting caught in an Alliance-Horde crossfire. Notable characters Kezan is home to several goblins of status. From the greedy Trade Prince Gallywix to the enthusiastic Sassy Hardwrench, the sexy Candy Cane and Chip Endale, and the Bilgewater Buccaneers trainer Coach Crosscheck, the personalities are as varied as they are colorful. Be sure to take the time to absorb the local culture before you head out to the Lost Isles, as you may never be able to return. Trivia At BlizzCon 2010, Alex Afrasiabi said that the goblin starting zone was only "a small segment of the actual whole of Kezan", and that the goblins "did want to go back to Undermine and the other goblin land holdings, just a question of when." The MOTHERLODE!! dungeon, another location south of Mount Kajaro on Kezan, was additionally added in Battle for Azeroth eight years later. The Isle of Kezan (pronounced "KEH-zawn") located in the South Seas is the tropical homeland of the goblins. Their capital of Undermine is located beneath the island, deep in the bowels of Mount Kajaro. Thanks to Kezan's prominence as a mercantile hub, it's been divided into dozens of districts by the trade princes, who view every inch of land as an opportunity waiting to be converted into gold and silver. Kezan's tropical palms are bisected with miles of roadway, and even the beaches are beginning to be paved over by goblin ambitions. Nature eventually reclaimed the island of Kezan as the massive Mount Kajaro erupted with the Cataclysm, flooding the island with searing lava and sending tidal recoil sweeping through Kezan's harbors. The Trade Princes reside here, as does Mogul Razdunk, the founder and ruler of the Venture Company, and Director Riddlevox, the leader of the goblin Tinkers' Union. The playable goblin race experiences a phased instance of Kezan in their earliest levels before evacuating to the Lost Isles. Kezan is not reachable by other races or beyond these initial levels. Many of the denizens now live in Bilgewater Harbor in Azshara. History |
